Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is where a high school student takes classes for both college and high school credit.
It is an excellent way to validate a student's performance and demonstrate the capability to do college-level work.

In North Carolina, it is called NC Career & College Promise. Eligibility Infographic (page 59)
AB Tech, Blue Ridge, Haywood, Isothermal, McDowell Tech, and Southwestern Community Colleges participate

To start as a high school junior or senior :

• Have a 2.8 or higher GPA

To start as a high school freshman or sophomore:

• Be academically or intellectually gifted in English, reading, and math - typically scoring 92% or better on both aptitude and achievement standardized tests (Iowa with CogAT meets requirement) but it's up to the student's current school to make the determination.
• Demonstrate college readiness through minimum scores on certain approved tests ( PSAT, SAT, PreACT, ACT, or Placement Tests). See College Readiness Benchmarks (page 34)
